Lysine Degradation

Description: The degradation of lysine in bacteria occurs in one main step where L-lysine is decarboxylated into cadaverine using the enzyme, lysine decarboxylase. An enzyme that induces this is CadC DNA-binding transcriptional activator, and an enzyme that represses this is ArchA-phosphorylated DNA-binding transcriptional dual regulator.
